"Fair Wear: Accelerating the Movement Towards Fair and Ethical Fashion"

Fair Wear is an incredible organisation that is doing everything it can to create a world where garment workers can enjoy their human rights and earn a fair wage. Founded in 1999, the group has been working tirelessly to improve working conditions in the garment industry, and they have made remarkable progress in achieving their goals.

What sets Fair Wear apart from other organisations is their approach. They are a true multistakeholder initiative, which means that they work with everyone involved in the garment industry to find solutions to the challenges facing the sector. This includes brands, factories, workers, trade unions, NGOs, and other industry influencers.

Fair Wear believes that collaboration is the key to success, and they work hard to build a critical mass for change. They provide active and practical support to ensure that workers are in the driving seat of improving and monitoring their own working conditions. They help workers to be well informed, well represented, and able to raise concerns when their rights are violated. They guide and assess brands and promote the full and mandatory implementation of the OECD guidelines for human rights due diligence across the industry.

Another thing that sets Fair Wear apart is their focus on shifting power imbalances. They believe that workers must be in a position to form or join a trade union, and their democratically elected representatives should be able to speak on their behalf. Effective ‘Social Dialogue’ between collective workers’ voice and employers is key to improving working conditions, including wages. By empowering factories to negotiate with their customers, the brands, on an equal footing through ‘Sourcing Dialogue,’ Fair Wear is making a real difference in the lives of garment workers.

Fair Wear is an independent, not-for-profit foundation, and their independence is guaranteed by their multi-stakeholder board. Their board is made up of industry associations, trade unions, and NGOs, ensuring that all voices are heard and represented. Transparency and equal access to information are important values for the Foundation, and they always act in the best interest of their goals.

In short, Fair Wear is an awesome organization that is making a real difference in the lives of garment workers around the world. They are committed to creating a world where everyone is treated fairly and with dignity, and they are doing everything they can to achieve that goal.
